History
Department of Finance and Accounting was established in July 2014 by a merger of former Department of Finance and Department of Accounting. This merger was a part of comprehensive organizational restructuring of the School of Business Administration which resulted in conversion of 12 former academic departments into 5 new departments.
History of the former Department of Finance goes back to September 1994. Since its foundng, the Department provided lecture in a wide range of financial courses and members of the department guaranteed study programs in Banking, Finance and Corporate Finance. The Department was chaired by the following heads: Ing. Milan Třaskalík (1994-1995), prof. PhDr. RNDr. Stanislav Polouček, CSc. (1995-2006), prof. Ing. Lumír Kulhánek, CSc. (2006-2008) and prof. Ing. Daniel Stavárek, Ph.D. (od 2008). The former Department of Accounting was established in March 1998 and was dedicated to teaching in many undergraduate and graduate courses with focus on various aspects of accounting and taxes. Since the academic year 2008/2008 the Department has guaranteed a new study program in Accounting and Taxes. The first head of the Department was doc. Ing. Eva Sikorová, CSc. (1998-2007) who was the predecessor of doc. Ing. Jana Janoušková, Ph.D. (2008-2014).
The progressive development of PhD studies caused a considerably increasing involvement of internal PhD students to the activities of the Department. The current PhD students are mostly some of the outstanding graduates of the master studies in majors guaranteed by the Department of Finance and Accounting. We can found many examples of PhD graduates who continued the academic career as Assistant Professors at the Department. The Department has hosted many foreign teachers and researchers. They usually deliver guest lectures or teach in regular courses. In addition, they collaborate on research activities of individual members of the Department.
